Sew Mama Sew Give Away Day!

So the Giveaway day hosted by Sew, Mama, Sew starts tomorrow, but I have a free minute to do my post now with nap time...so let's get the party started!
My giveaway is 4 fat quarters of Anna Marie's Chocolate Lollipop line.

And because Colette and I are having so much fun with fabric covered button magnets, we made a set of 4 to give away as well!

The lovely Princess Pea and her slippers...as well as another print by Anna Maria Horner.
So please leave a comment to be entered to win. I will post internationally. I am thinking about making a quilt for Hugo's 'big boy' bed...so if you have any ideas for a twin size quilt for a 2 year old boy, please leave that in the comment...colors, patterns, a link to one you have made that turned out great. I will leave the giveaway open until December 6th and pick a winner that night.
If you have a minute, you should really check out the button on the top right of my blog to see all the other giveaways going on at Sew, Mama, Sew...but beware, it will be a huge time suckage!!

Ideas for a boys quilt...tough one!
How about an Ohio star in blues & red with pictures of his favourite characters in the middle of the stars ( fussy cutting fabric or using panels is great for this).
    I didn't say my idea was a good one...LOL
Please still enter me in your giveaway...LOL

Not sure if you're at all into this, but my little boy has a cowboy bedroom, so his quilt looks like this one I made for my nephew...http://sewmamas.blogspot.com/2009/09/hello-anybody-out-there.html (scroll to bottom.)

    ReplyDelete
  23. Those are great buttons! As far as the quilt...my 2 boys keep telling me they want quilts for their beds because I made some for grandparents. Well, post your favorite ideas, I could use some inspiration!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Beautiful fabric!
As far as the quilt goes, you could piece a picture of your son's favorite type of toy, animal, character, etc. My son loves cars, so I have been VERY slowly working on a map type street scene. Applique would be easy, but a giant paper pieced quilt would be divine.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I am a big fan of Noah's ark themes...the water, the animals!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I recently saw a quilt made for a little boy out of fairy tale prints. It was just plain rectangles sewed together, but the prints were adorable; things such as Jack and Jill and such.
Also, I love the little bonnet girl quilts and I've seen them where there's a little boy fishing, but I'm not sure what that quilt is called.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I would like to be entered in this contest! I think that a great quilt for a little boy would be one that he could help choose colors and ideas! Good luck and thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Lovely!! Thank you for the chance to win!! about the colors I thing some kinds of blues and chocolate will be great!

    ReplyDelete
  29. oh I love Anna Maria's fabrics! & the button magnets are so cute. I agree, blue & chocolate would be a sweet boy quilt. Or something with cars on it... boys love cars!

    ReplyDelete
  30. love to win. i'd go with munki munki for the 2 year old boy bed but then i'm partial.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Great fabrics and the button magnets are adorable.

Quilt for a boy??? I did a couple for grandsons using patterns from Quiltmaker Magazine. One was with dogs and fire hydrants (very cute) and the other was with frogs, bugs and all else. That was also precious and is well loved.

    ReplyDelete
  32. My nephews are into policemen, fire, construction. You could get all patterns of those type things (or whatever you son is into), mix with some solids and have a cool quilt.

    I'd love to win!

    ReplyDelete
  33. i love your fabric! and cute magnets!
i hope to get lucky like you did at november! and yes- that is lucky to win all that! wow!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Oooooh, excellent give-away! ::fingers crossed::

    ReplyDelete
  37. Oh, I love the fabric! Fantastic. Are the animal party fabrics too young for a 2 year old? That fabric might be great for a quilt.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Great fabric. and I love the buttons!

    ReplyDelete
  39. That fabric is just lovely, I can already picture what it would turn into :)

    ReplyDelete
  40. I made a Color Wheel quilt from "Last Minute Patchwork + Quilted Gifts" for my 5-year-old, but used just blues and greens. The pattern looks complicated but it really wasn't... I finished it in record time amid all my other Christmas projects last year. Here's a link to pictures: http://www.stitchcraftcreations.com/2009/08/22/a-tour-a-tutorial/

    ReplyDelete
  41. I love those button magnets!

For my daughter's big girl bed, I made a stacked coin quilt. Since she has one of those star canopies over her bed, I used the "Neptune" fabric line for a sea-themed bed covering for her to sleep under. Lying in the ocean, looking up at the stars ....

I'm not a fan of gendering, so if my daughter was a boy, the quilt would have been the same :)

    ReplyDelete
  42. I covet that fabric!

I found this pattern for a zig-zag quilt that I want to make for my boyfriend, but I haven't started it yet: http://beesquarefabrics.blogspot.com/2009/03/how-to-make-zig-zag-quilt-without.html I like the idea of no triangles... :)

I wish I has suggestions for a boy quilt but I mostly just wing my quilts and rarely work from a pattern.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Well, you could make an I Spy quilt or a fun disappearing 9-patch or a bright sampler quilt. I recently made 4 kids' quilts and blogged about them. Thanks for the chance for the giveaway!

I used lots of primary solids, a japanese fabric with trains (because he LOVES trains) and heather ross' rabbits and cars fabric. he really seemed to like it.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I love those fabrics! I really like blue and green for boys, I recently made a quilt with those colors and a fabric with motorcycles (which my nephew loves), so I just kept it simple with traditional squares and for the reverse I used a nice turquoise fleece

    ReplyDelete
  87. Nice choices! Thanks for helping to make the giveaway day as awesome as it is :)
For your 2-year-old boy, I would have him go online (like to, say, quilterscache.com or somewhere else where there are lots of black patterns with big pictures) and have him pick one he likes, and them take him to the fabric shoppe with you to pick out his favorite patterns and colors. A fun challenge for you, and what could be neater than having a quilt on your "big-boy bed" that you helped to put together yourself!

As for quilt suggestions...hmmm...I am NOT a quilter, so the ones I made are simple 6" block quilts..I like them "puffy" like a comforter so I generally tend to just stitch in the ditch and follow the squares!! 95. Adorable!

I keep saying I'm going to make my boys (5 and 2) quilts but haven't yet. (story of my life!) Anyhoo, I was going to hit resale shops and my hubby's closet and pick up tons of men's dress shirts in different plaids and stripes then make scrappy quilts with denim binding. For their shared bath, I thought I'd do a matching shower curtain with denim ties.

    ReplyDelete
  96. what gorgeous fabric! I love the color combo brown and blue. The little boy's monster quilt from "Don't Look Now!" posted today is just adorable. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  97. Fabrics for boys are limited. the ones I love are Riley Blakes, All Star (love that it comes both in cotton and flannel) David Walker's, Robots and Oh Boy! lines are both cute. I just made my 2 year old son a charm square quilt (a little bigger than crib size but not quite twin) out of all different kinds of fabric solids and prints and he loves searching for the different squares. He has made it a game.

  106. Great giveaway!

For the quilt? I'm pretty new to the quilting world, but I think there are a few quilts in the Denyse Schmidt book, Denyse Schmidt Quilts, that can be easily boy friendly with the use of color. I am looking at the ICE POPS or the BIG ZIG patterns for my sons. For colors, I am loving a color grouping I saw at Film in the Fridge blog - navy, sky blue, grey and chartruse (yummy).

    Good luck and Happy Holidays!

    ReplyDelete
  107. The fabric and magnets are beautiful- thank you for this opportunity! I love argyle quilts- maybe that would work for your little guy!

    ReplyDelete
  109. I was planning on doing my boy's room in pirate ships---using fabric with old maps, pirate flags, traidtional pirate colors (blacks and reds)--all appliqued onto blocks. Then we found out we were having a girl and my husband said, "You can't do a pirate room for a girl!" Ah, man.

    Thanks,

    ReplyDelete
  114. oh my I haven't made but 1 boys quilt and it was from a pattern at Connecting Threads from a long time ago. In fact they'd sold out of the kit and I picked up the fabric I needed from lot's of different places. It was a circus quilt.
    This fabric looks wonderful!

    ReplyDelete
  115. Oh yummy fabrics ( big Anna Marie Horner fan here) and such cute magnets too. Have always wanted to try making those. Have made other magnets with fabric and resin pebbles which are featured on my blog somewhere if you want to check them out. I wish I could help you out with a boys quilt idea but I have 2 girls so mine are generally quite girly. I did make one quilt for my nephew when he was a baby. It was very bright colours and was an alphabet quilt with pictures appliqued on to represent each letter. If that appeals I can dig out the pattern somewhere amongst my magazines. Thanks for the great giveaway. My toes and fingers are crossed.

  134. Those colours are gorgeous. As for 2 yr old quilt, I don't know. My youngest is 20 mths and I have sitting here still the fabric to make a very hungry caterpillar quilt. I think he may be too old for it by the time I finish though (it will be my first quilt)

Maybe a multicoloured squares and triangles with appliques of his favourite things (cars, boats, trucks, planes etc??)

  149. really pretty fabrics--pick me! pick me!!

I don't have boys but I think blocks of animals or cars or something he's interested in would work; you could just make the blocks squares without a lot piecing so it wouldn't be "fussy" like you'd make for a girl, maybe?

  155. I love the button magnets!
My only suggestion for a big boy blanket is to make one of the quilts that looks like jars on a shelf (my MIL has a canning one with fruit fabrics in the jars, but she also has a halloween inspired one with bugs and spiders, I bet one with nuts and bolts or other "garage" parts would be a big hit, or the bugs and spiders is the one my nephew loves!)
    Good luck.

  158. Great fabrics! Hmm...a quilt for a boy. Although I have never made a twin quilt for a boy, if I did I think I would use blues and browns, I saw one recently in that colour palette and loved the way it looked.

  161. Great giveaway! I have a twin size quilt in the works right now for my 3 year old son. It's a disappearing nine patch with five 12" embroidered blocks spaced out in the middle. I've used medium blue, dark blue, yellow, and orange solids and a bunch of vehicle prints.

  162. Love the Fabric and the button magnets. What ever you do don't pick anything that could some day be "scary" Monsters, dinosaurs, or in my son's case aliens. That'll just come back to bite you!

  163. Great prizes! I'm going to be making my 2 year old boy a quilt too. I'm thinking a four patch, I spy kind of quilt, or bright zigzags. I would really like to make one with giant applique blocks like oak leaves and acorns, but that might wait til he's older and I have more time!
