My bee month

So it is March and that means my 'bee' month.  very exciting.  I meant to be more organized, and have my fabric mailed out to the bee members before the end of the month, but being sick 1/2 of February really threw my month's productivity level off!

I mailed packets of Kona cottons to everyone...both bee!  Odd that I ended up having March in both monthes, but nice I think.  I sent everyone a fat eighth of Kona Snow and then some scraps of every color I could pull together. 

Hoping for flying geese, friendship stars, liberated stars and shoo fly blocks to make their way back to me over the next 2 months. 

The color wheel quilt is for Hugo's room, and these blocks will be for his room also.  Two twin beds in his room.  Here are a few sample blocks i made for the quilt:

Iva's block

I finished up a block last night for my Dozen Quilter's bee...
It was a fun one to do, and i like the colors Iva requested we use.
I don't use nearly enough yellow.

I have been sick and not sure why I am still coughing and sneezing...feel really out of energy...and this illness has really hampered the working out I have been doing with my new Wii Fitness Coach.  :(

May have to break down and call the doctors office...

We have managed to make it outside to play in the snow a few times in the past few days though...wish it was not so cold though...

I got a question about the outermost fabric in bee block...I wasn't able to respond to you robinde because you have your id set up at no reply...but the fabric is: Woodstock for Benatrex

store sample

Sorry for my disappearing act...I've been busy, but I wanted to show you what I have been working on.  I have been chosen to make a store sample for a quilt shop.  I have been making this fabulous sewing basket with cotton piping and Bali pops fabrics.  After re-reading the directions numerous times, I sat down and got started Sunday night and it's been fun.  Been wrapping fabric and listening to a book on cd.  my little slice of heaven the past few nights!

color wheel continues

I got my zig zag quilt back today from the quilter.  variagated thread with a large stipple.  very nice, and every inexpensive.  Again, the theme for the charity quilt this year is "wild one" so I hope this fits the bill.  Not sure what I will do for the binding yet...any suggestions?      And it has also led me to think about Hugo's color wheel quilt...the pattern shows the wheel on white background but maybe a gray would be nice too?   This is Kona Coal I think...but what about Kona Ash...my local quilt shop has it on sale right now for $4.50 yard...

So work continues on the color wheel quilt.  I have started cutting some pieces although I am not sure that all 52 pieces I have laid out are keepers.  It still feels like progress.

And as mentioned, my quilt shop has a good sale right now...hundreds of bolts for $6...I got a little bit of some solids for my upcoming bee month (March for both bees I participate in!!)  and a few dots that I just love.

color wheel

Hi everyone...is anyone actually there??

anyway, wanted to post a picture of my color wheel quilt in progress.  wanting some more flea market fancy for this quilt, but I honestly think it will be fantastic with or without those fabrics.

do you suppose I can add a few gray prints?  i just love Denyse Schmidts new Hope Valley so much, I can't bear to leave my favorite prints out!

And it does not surprise me to see my purple section is really lacking substance...must keep looking for purple.  and seeing this picture makes me think I need to boost the red section too.

any advice from the peanut gallery??

My wild star

Another bee block complete.  This one is for Gayly, from my bee A Dozen Quilters.  Gayly overbought the bright fabric online and wants to make a quilt for her past exchange student.  She asked for a star block, and well, I coudln't stray too far from the liberated star I did the other night...I really like the freedom of this block...Hope you like it Gayly!

January bee block

This month for the Bee Balm online quilting bee we were asked to make a liberated star.  Elaine sent the white fabric (that  inconviently blends into my design wall..aka batting pinned to my wall).  And she simply asked us to use our own fabric for the center and star points.

I loved making this block...seriously considering asking the members of my other bee to do this for me in March.
