color wheel

I can't believe how quickly this went together once I set my mind to 'just do it'.  I was so nervous I was going to ruin everything trying to sew curves for the first time!  I am so happy with how it turned out...I wonder if anyone has suggestions for how to quilt it?  Joelle's book shows the quilting as straight lines radiating from the center, but I don't think that is what I want to do.  Any thoughts??

Also, right now it is approx. 56 inches square...so I want to add some length to it for a twin size bed...Im thinking some scrappy piano keys border at the top and bottom?  with some of the extra Kona Snow inter-mingled...do you think this will take away from the central design??

  1. ooh it's just gorgeous Jenny!! I don't think a top/bottom will detract (is that a word?) from the focal point, as long as they aren't too big and overpowering. LOVE this!

  2. Great Job! I love all the fabrics together.

For the quilting....maybe start in the center of the white circle and start to spiral outwards (I hope you know what i"m trying to say...I can picture it in my head)

As for the piano keys border...go for it! If you decide that you don't like, get out the thread riper and remove it...that's what I dont when I decide I don't like something.

I can't wait to see what you've some up with.

  3. It looks great! I think your piano key boarder would be perfect - don't think it would detract at all.

If you don't want to do the straight line thing for quilting, perhaps a circle that swirls out? Or just concentric circles?

  4. Wow, this looks fantastic! Love your idea for the border. I've seen some free-motion on these color wheel quilts, which looks cool. Or you could circle around the wheel.

  5. Beautiful, great fabric and color selections! I think your border would be a nice splash out to the edge, with the white included.

  8. I've been doing the same thing, thinking about it, but the curves scare me away...

I really like how it turned out, though! And, your idea to add length sounds great! You've given me hope!
