a fun little giveaway

A month ago or so, I won a giveaway from Sweetwater. You know...the awesome force behind such great fabric lines as Authentic, Make Life..., and the upcoming Hometown. Well....I won a fantastic box of Hometown scraps.

I'm super excited for this collection...it has a seriously cool vibe. I have a few pieces put aside for my next neutral quilt..and the text prints are fabulous. I thought someone might like a 'charm' stack of these fabrics?

My scale tells me this is 3.4 ounce of fabric. You want it? on the right side there are a few cuts from the canvas weight...very nice weight I think!! I'm thinking library bags for my kids.

So just leave a comment...maybe you can tell me your favorite way to keep your kids learning during the summer? or your child's favorite book? Ill have random number pick a winner on Saturday.

  1. Oh my. I would love those! Favorite way to keep kids learning in summer....make things fun. We will often ask what a word starts with or get them to count things. Anything that seems like a game. Mind you, mine girls are 6 adn 5 so they like that.

  2. What a great giveaway, Jenny! We haven't figured out the continual-learning-thing during the summer here (most days we just strive to 'survive'! :P)... but we do have a couple of new favorite books. They are fairytale books with an alternate story. We have "Waking Beauty" and "Falling for Repunzel". They are by Leah Wilcox. Really cute stories. Thanks again for the giveaway!

  5. Thank you for the giveaway. Since my kids are grown and have kids of their own I will tell you how they keep their kids busy during the summer. Softball. The older ones I have taught to sew and they make quilts. Hugs.

  6. My daughter goes to school year round so I really don't have any ideas, but she LOVES to paint, the larger the canvas the more fun =)

  8. Ummm, I have no kids. But I will tell you that I follow the local library branch's facebook page, and they always have a hoppin' schedule with lots of activities for kids.

  9. Roarke loves all the Ladybug Girl books (and so do we!) We also try and encourage him to do one workbook page a day--practicing writing letters, counting, matching, etc. If he completes one, he gets a sticker on his chore chart (he has lots of ways to earn stickers). After 160 stickers, he gets a new "Cars" car. It takes about 4 weeks for him to earn a new one, but he always seems motivated!

  10. Hometown has some great colors. My granddaughter's favorite book right now (she's one) is The Elusive Moose!!

  11. I don't have kids yet, but as a kid my favorite picture book was "the little engine that could" :)

  12. My 3 year old's current favorite book is Little Nino's Pizzeria by Karen Barbour. It's bright and the little boy in the story tells how he helps his Dad out at the pizzeria until the Dad becomes successful and opens a fancy place and the little boy gets pushed aside. In the end the Dad goes back to a new little pizza place and the little boy gets to be his best helper again.

  13. I always signed my kids up for the library's summer reading program. And we'd choose a book that was a little more involved for them and I'd read a chapter a night to them... kids love being read to as much as reading themselves. :-) Love your fabrics! Have a happy first day of summer!

  14. These look like so much fun! I unfortunately don't have kids yet, so I don't have any good tips for you. But when I was a kid, I took swimming lessons every summer and loved it!

  15. Yes I do love me some Sweetwater. It is so sweet of you to share your luck.

My kids balk at traditional learning in the summer, but I keep trying. My 7 year old loves workbooks, so she has a bridging book meant for summer. She also has a writing notebook and she does lots of reading. So an hour of quiet time per day is spent doing those three things. And both kids and I are working on a bunch of unschooling nature-type projects. Toad houses, bird watching and the like. They're very receptive to that sort of learning.

  16. I would answer both your questions...if only I had children. :)

  17. I am having Anna draw pictures and then writing a few sentences about her picture. We go to to the library every week and she reads bedtime books to her siblings. Today i sewed in the kitchen with one coloring, one writing and the other banging on the piano. I got a good hour of this...until they found out how interesting the Costco box was!!!

  18. Sweetwater is one of my favorites! My son is only 2, and right now his favorite book is Once Upon a Potty. When we're not pottytraining, he always loves to read Goodnight Moon. In fact, he was reading it to his 6 month old brother last night--adorable! Thanks for the giveaway. :)

  19. Oooh, you lucky devil--I'm loving the looks of Hometown!

I'm not a mom, but I am a librarian and a life-long reader. My favorite kids book is "Whose Mouse Are You?" by Robert Kraus--thirty years later, I can still recite it by heart!

  21. This is such great fabric! Thanks for sharing!

When I was younger I used to enter the library's reading programs. I would win prizes and read some new books that I wouldn't otherwise have read. I would have a great day when mom said I could go to the library. My favorite book when I was younger? Little House on the Prairie, Anne of Green Gables, The Babysitter's Club. Sigh. Those were great days! I still look forward to visitng my library in the summer!

  22. both my 2 younger ones are in summer school. past the 30th June i'm not really sure. Usually we'll go down to the book store and let them pick out one of those activity big books. but sometimes that only lasts for a wk. LOL. They love to read. So there's always the library!

  23. I love Sweetwater -- you lucky girl. How very nice of you to share! I used to like to play cards or games with the kids -- just something fun where they were using math without even thinking about it! And there's just no way we could pick a favorite book, although, when my boys were your kid's ages, one standout is My Father's Dragon. (Probably stands out 'cause I started a My Father's Dragon quilt way back then and still only have one block done LOL!)

  24. Lovely fabric!
My daughter is only three but she loves to learn about animals and the alphabet so I've made up our own alphabet with family member's and friends' names. So our alphabet starts: "Aron" (our dog), "Uncle Bear", Charlie (our cat)....
Her favourite books are the ones by Shirley Hughes.
